Februar 2016<\/em><strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;<\/strong>Vergangene Woche haben Physiker des Max-Planck-Instituts f\u00fcr Gravitationsphysik in Hannover&nbsp;offiziell die Entdeckung von Gravitationswellen verk\u00fcndet und somit die von Albert Einstein vor 100 Jahren erstmals vermutete Kr\u00e4uselungen der Raumzeit best\u00e4tigt. Aufgezeichnet wurden diese von Gravitationswellendetektoren, die in den USA am Laser Interferometer Gravitation Wave Observatory (LIGO) stehen. Das LIGO-Experiment ist ein internationales Projekt \u2013 der Gro\u00dfteil der hierf\u00fcr eingesetzten Technik stammt vom Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Gravitationsphysik, dessen Hochleistungsrechner in Hannover betrieben werden. Dabei durchsuchen Rechencluster der Freiburger Pyramid Computer GmbH die Daten der Gravitationswellendetektoren nach Signalen und werten diese aus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Der Nachweis der Gravitationswellen gelang \u00fcber die Signatur miteinander verschmelzender schwarzer L\u00f6cher. Dass im Max-Planck-Institut betriebene Hochleistungsrechencluster Atlas ist der weltweit leistungsf\u00e4higste Gro\u00dfrechner f\u00fcr die Suche nach Gravitationswellen und stellt den Hauptteil der Rechenleistung f\u00fcr die Entdeckung und die Analyse von LIGO-Daten zur Verf\u00fcgung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er wurde bereits 2008 in Betrieb genommen und besteht aus \u00fcber 1400 High-End-Rechnereinheiten von Pyramid, so genannte Nodes. Atlas kann \u00fcber 30 Billionen FLOPS (Floating Point Operations Per Second) ausf\u00fchren und hat seit Inbetriebnahme mehr als 24 Millionen beigetragenen CPU-Stunden geleistet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pyramid stellt High-End IT-Systeme sowie Server her und verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber umfangreiche Erfahrungen in der Herstellung und Installation von Cluster-L\u00f6sungen. Das Unternehmen hat bereits f\u00fcr das Max-Planck-Institut f\u00fcr Gravitationsphysik in Potsdam, das Fraunhofer Institut (Institut f\u00fcr Graphische Datenverarbeitung), und diverse Universit\u00e4ten und Industriekonzerne leistungsf\u00e4hige Cluster Systeme realisiert.
